LG is unveiling cool smartphones one after another. A couple of days ago the Korean company introduced the LG Optimus Vu, which is known for its unusual display with 4:3 aspect ratio. Now it comes up with another surprising smartphone dubbed the LG Optimus LTE Tag with NFC support.

At first sight, the Optimus LTE Tag has nothing advantageous besides the look and the wide screen. The phone features a 4.3-inch ISP touchscreen, a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 16GB of internal memory, 1GB of RAM, a 5MP rear camera with autofocus and LED flash, a 1.3MP frontal camera for web chat and runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Not that impressive, right? But these are not the handset’s key features.

The LG NFC tag+ is the special app of this smartphone coming pre-installed. It’s able to turn the phone into car mode automatically when it’s near that tag. Thus users can enable the navigation system on the phone, and program it to turn on Bluetooth, GPS and raise the volume. With a glamy car stand it will become an ideal fellow passenger when traveling by car.

The LG Optimus LTE Tag will be launched in South Korea later this month at a price tag of $710.

Source

The LG 3D Max previously known as Optimus 3D 2 is now leaked in a shot demonstrating all its charm. The manufacturer had to work hard to have the improved product in contrast to the first 3D model.

The two basic changes concern the screen resolution and dimensions. The manufacturer will offer only a 0.38 inch (9.8mm) thickness for the novelty. As for the display, users will finally get support for a large 4.5 inch IPS-LCD Nitro HD display.

The smartphone will come with a full pack of 3D capabilities. Due to a special glass cover you will watch a 3D video without special glasses. It will allow shooting 3D pics and videos with the help of two rear cameras. You will also have an opportunity to convert from 2D to 3D and contrariwise.

The handset is expected to get firstly launched by SK in Korea. Soon after that, it’s expected to be launched in other locations worldwide. In all likelihood, the handset will be unveiled at MWC 2012 in Barcelona.

Our daily routine seems to be filled with news regarding the international version of the Nokia Lumia 900, expected to appear with the name Lumia 910. The main differences of the devices were thought to include not only the connectivity options, but also the camera. Given this, the Lumia 910 would appear with a 12 megapixel camera instead of the 8 megapixel one coming with the Lumia 900. Unfortunately, Nokia says there will be no camera difference between the two models.

In his Twitter account Damian Dinning, Nokia’s imaging chief, answered certain questions concerning the Nokia Lumia 910. He mentioned that the novelty will rock an 8.7 megapixel camera, which is a hint that the novelty will not sport a sensor other than that of the Lumia 900.

Still I wonder about the 12 megapixel device leaked in the Netherlands a few weeks ago.

We expected Nokia to launch the 12 megapixel model of the Lumia 900 at Mobile World Congress 2012 start shipping via EMS USA. If Nokia doesn’t come up with an innovative idea for the MWC 2012, then the financial problems firstly connected to Symbian devices will get even tougher.

It seems that the next generation of mobile internet is here: Verizon Wireless has officially released its 4G LTE service to almost 200 cities in the US to be used on several smartphone models, Samsung Galaxy Nexus phones included. LTE stands for Long Term Evolution, and refers to the latest standard of mobile network technology. It has the potential to dramatically increase the speed of downloads and uploads, in some instances at over 10 times the rate of 3G, the current standard. However, this comes with an important disadvantage as this lightning fast connection would also drain a normal phone battery dry within an hour or two, if not less. One way manufacturers think they may be able to get around this issue is by releasing separate, larger batteries that would help boost the phone’s battery life, yet these accessories aren’t cheap.

So, would the Nexus benefit from this extra, bigger battery? The general consensus seems to be that the average user could get away without it, as long as they weren’t spending large amounts of time on power-draining activities such as watching videos and browsing the internet. These are, however, meant to be the benefits of the 4G, and if you can’t do them at any time and for as long as you want then some users may ask whether there is really any point. The bigger batteries also increase the thickness of the phone, something manufacturers have been trying to achieve the opposite of over the past few years. Some of the latest mobile phone packages tend to go for style over function, sacrificing a longer battery life for a swisher look; something that the Nexus too is guilty of.

The Nexus is actually experiencing battery issues already, although this is down to a glitch in the newly updated Android operating system, Ice Cream Sandwich. Battery drains from full to empty in just five hours, even when the phone is not in use. Herein lies the problem with blurring the line between computer and phone.

Good news for all HTC Rezound owners. Verizon Wireless is currently pushing out an update. As the carrier says it’s a minor update developed to fix some worrying bugs and to improve the handset’s overall performance.

I know that many people are waiting for another update, which will bring their devices to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. But the carrier says the ICS update is not ready yet and they don’t know how long it will take. So don’t ignore this update and upgrade your handset.

The update is pushed out region by region, so it can take up to three days before every HTC Rezound user downloads it. As for the update itself, it is made especially to fix bugs related with the phone’s signal strength and in-call audio quality. Plus, as I have mentioned above, it offers bug fixes regarding the performance of key areas.

Only a month ago Nokia announced about its plans to quit Symbian suffix from the Nokia Symbian Belle, making it simply Nokia Belle. This will be the final name for the software update which is expected to land to the following handsets: Nokia N8, C7, C6-01, E7, X7, and E6. Still the launch date of the update remains unknown while we are sure about the month, which is February.

Nokia Vietnam was the first official source to leak a possible launch date of the Nokia Belle. First, Nokia Vietnam had a webpage devoted to the Belle update, mentioning the date of February 8. Afterwards the webpage was removed, while still keeping a note in Nokia Vietnam’s Facebook page mentioning the same date.

Most likely the webpage was removed not due to the wrong information but rather due to the fact it was leaked too early.

As for the Nokia Belle, at the moment we already now that the update will not come as an OTA, rather the users will be required to download Nokia Suite to be able to get the update for their units. This is too bad, still apparentaly the update is going to be rather big for a comfortable OTA download.

Walls in future will not be only for windows, pictures and the like. They will become interactive. A step towards that ideal came by a man called DDRBoxman, who thought out a way to work with your Galaxy Nexus on a wall. The phone has a decent 4.65-inch display, but what if you would like to show something on a bigger scale to several people?

You will need a projector, a Kinect camera, a tweaked Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich ROM and voila and you can “transfer” what is shown on your smartphones screen on the wall, and moreover, the wall will be interactive, that is a push on the wall will do the same as the tapping on your phone screen. Miracle, isn’t’ it? The process of showing the screen on the wall does not seem much difficult, but what about the interaction thing?

DDRBoxman made this possible by an app called Simple Kinect Touch, which lets a Windows or Linux computer register and process data from the attached Kinect camera, pointed in its turn to a Galaxy Nexus projection. The app then starts registering gestures as data, turns them into TUIO data so that the Galaxy Nexus can understand this as a touch due to the customized ROM.

I can claim with assurance that DDRBoxman laid the foundations of future interactive walls. Soon the same will happen with other brands, and manufacturers will release official apps. Want it or no, you would have to ask what OS the walls have when buying a house; but that’s sometime in the future.

I always admire people who can make a prognosis with such confidence that you want to believe them. Eldar Murtazin, a Russian journalist and chief editor of Mobile Review, is one of my favorites and don’t ask why. OK, maybe because I can never understand where Mr. Eldar Murtazin takes his next information from, but obviously he has his own sources.

Well, the great news for all Samsung enthusiasts is that the much expected and much rumored upon device from Samsung called the Samsung Galaxy S3 is going to be announced at the upcoming Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Murtazin in his tweet spoke much about the Nokia Lumia 900 and the Galaxy S3.

As Murtazin says, the new Samsung phone will sport a screen with an HD resolution, 12MP rear camera (wow), Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, a 1.5 or 1.6GHz processor and a good battery (well, you have to believe it is good, that’s the way). These specs speak for themselves for Samsung, good job: consider just the 12MP camera and the processor. Pity no mention comes as to the RAM and the internal memory, but we hope they will too be compatible with the great features above.

Mr. Murtazin also said the Nokia Lumia 900 will be known in Europe by the name Nokia Lumia 910 and will be launched in May this year. So if these rumors turn out to be true, we should applause him for such a job.

Source

As the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona is looming on the horizon, smartphone manufacturers make steady their “fleet” to meet the high standards of the show. Rumor has it that LG also prepares its next 3D phone codenamed CX2 (the first 3D phone being Optimus 3D). Though the name of the new device does not hint at the presence of 3D, it will bring improvements on such features as the auto-stereoscopic screen, more power on the processor, will ease the conversion from two-dimensional into stereoscopic footage and so on.

On the processor level, the LG CX2 will have 1.2GHz dual-core CPU (Optimus 3D sports a 1GHz CPU), it will sport a 4.3-inch Nova display with the same resolution as the Optimus 3D. There are dual back camera with 5MP resolution, 8GB internal storage, DLNA capable 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and 21Mbps HSPA. The phone’s dimensions are similar to those of the Optimus 3D, with the exception of thickness: the body of the handset will get slimmer by two millimeters and will have sub-ten millimeter status. And the most controversial thing relates to the OS; it is reported the new device will run Android Gingerbread!

Still, LG fans seem not much impressed by this phone since you would expect LG to make tangible changes before launching its next smartphone; otherwise the company can find itself in the situation of HTC.

It’s good to have if not exact but at least some ideas about what to expect from smartphone manufacturers at the upcoming MWC 2012 in Barcelona. This is of course all a matter of guessing, but when the guess becomes a reality at the MWC, then it will be time to smile and think, “aha, I knew so, I just knew…”

HTC for example will most probably introduce its HTC Endeavor and HTC Ville at the event. LG also will turn up with something new and awesome (and that means a quad-core processor, doesn’t’ it?). The LG X3 is rumored to be revealed sometime this year and why not, at MWC. Some of its specs are known: the phone will have a rather large screen (4.7 inches with resolution of 1280×720 pixels), a rear 8MP camera and a frontal 1.3MP camera, 16GB of internal memory upgradable due to a microSD card slot and will run Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Interestingly, the phone is reported to have physical buttons (as they say, every new thing, is the well forgotten old thing).

Though there are already some negative thoughts about the smartphones becoming bigger and bigger (so that its gets difficult already to say it’s a smartphone or a tablet), this particular model will be a thin one and will have a sub-eight millimeter body to compensate any comments about its gigantic screen.
